Bahrain centralises government cloud management under renewed Computer World agreement

Bahrain is centralising the management of government cloud services under a renewed agreement designed to tighten spending controls, strengthen operational governance and improve digital services for citizens and residents.

The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) renewed its strategic agreement with Computer World, an approved Amazon Web Services (AWS) partner for Bahrain’s government sector, following a tender awarded to the company in September 2026.

The agreement covers centralised management of the enterprise agreement for government services hosted on AWS. It aims to help public bodies use cloud resources more efficiently, improve cost transparency and secure greater value from their technology investments.

The arrangement places cloud management at the centre of Bahrain’s wider Digital Transformation programme. As government entities develop and expand online services, the agreement seeks to provide consistent management and operational controls to support security, reliability and service continuity.

For citizens and residents, the intended benefit is more dependable digital government services. For public bodies, the focus is on coordinating cloud operations, managing expenditure and scaling services according to their requirements.

The agreement was signed by iGA chief executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed and Computer World chairman Mohammed Farooq Almoayyed.

Al Qaed said the renewal reflected the authority’s commitment to developing Bahrain’s technology infrastructure, advancing Digital Transformation and adopting best practices in cloud services management.

He said the agreement would support the use of modern technology, help government keep pace with developments in the information and communications technology sector and improve public administration processes.

The objectives also include optimising ICT expenditure and accelerating technology projects. Alongside these operational priorities, Al Qaed highlighted the development of national capabilities and stronger digital skills among Bahraini professionals.

Almoayyed said the collaboration would unify the mechanisms used to manage government cloud services and improve the efficiency of resource utilisation and cost management.

He described the agreement as a further step towards stronger governance, greater cost transparency and improved operational efficiency, citing Bahrain’s progress in adopting cloud services across the region.

The renewed arrangement addresses both commercial oversight and day-to-day operations. Centralising management of the AWS enterprise agreement is intended to improve the coordination of government cloud expenditure, while unified controls are designed to support consistent service delivery across participating entities.

That combination could help government organisations align their use of cloud resources with service needs while maintaining oversight as demand changes. The authority also said the agreement would enable services to be developed and scaled in line with the requirements of individual government bodies.

However, the announcement did not disclose the contract’s value, duration or savings targets. It also did not identify the government entities covered or set out a timetable for implementation.

The stated priorities are therefore operational: stronger control over cloud costs, more consistent governance and reliable delivery of digital public services. The renewal gives Computer World a continuing role in supporting those objectives as Bahrain develops its government cloud environment.
