Nigeria’s Zamfara state will transition to a fully electronic governance platform replacing paper-based government processes with digital workflows, secure electronic signatures and AI-powered record management to improve efficiency, transparency and public service delivery.
Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal said the Digital Transformation initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s public service through technology.
He said the e-Government platform is designed to simplify government processes, promote transparency and accountability, and provide citizens with easier access to information on government activities.
Lawal said the training exercise, which began with members of the State Executive Council, will be extended to civil servants across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
He urged participants to take the training seriously to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative and maximise its benefits for the people of Zamfara State.
Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), Dr Habib Gajam, said the current workshop provides members of the Executive Council with practical experience of using the system ahead of its full deployment.
Gajam said Governor Lawal had directed that all submissions by commissioners and special advisers to the governor must be processed electronically.
He also said paper files and documents will no longer be submitted to the governor’s office, as all memos, letters and approvals will be transmitted and signed digitally using secure electronic signatures.
He said the digital platform will eliminate bureaucratic delays associated with moving physical files between government offices – accelerating decision-making and improving service delivery.
The Executive Secretary added that the system will also enable the governor to monitor every memo and approval issued, making it easier to track implementation of government directives and strengthen accountability.
Gajam further explained that the platform supports virtual State Executive Council meetings, allowing council members to participate remotely whenever necessary without being physically present.
The platform, he said, also incorporates AI features that preserve institutional memory by securely storing government records and enabling users to retrieve information quickly whenever required.
He said the e-Government platform provides an end-to-end digital solution for government operations and positions Zamfara among the leading states in Nigeria in adopting and implementing electronic governance.
